Self-Advocate Communication Workshop Series

Teens & Young Adults

We are looking for individuals with Down syndrome ages 16 years and older to volunteer for our 15th Annual MVDSA Dayton Buddy Walk® on Saturday, September 16, 2017!  There will be a variety of opportunities in the advocacy area such as introducing and/or escorting VIP guests, leading and managing our advocacy table as folks enter the Fifth-Third Field the day of the walk, or maybe give a short speech during the opening remarks.  We want to ensure the self-advocates are prepared, confident and comfortable in their volunteer role(s).  Therefore, our Advocacy Program Coordinator, Courtney Hansen has collaborated with David Cotter and the Town Hall Theatre in Centerville to provide a series of Self-Advocacy Communication Learning Workshops!

The workshops will focus on a variety of communication and public presence type of skills such as:

  • Communication Confidence
  • Public Speaking
  • Eye Contact
  • Body Language
  • Conversational Speech
  • Speech Writing
  • V.I.P. Guest Introduction Methods

The cost for this series is FREE but it is important for individuals to submit an R.S.V.P. to the MVDSA office via email or 937.222.0744.

 *** This Sunday, April 30th ONLY - Time Change.  The session will be 12:00pm - 2:00pm. ***
